I've said, elsewhere, that clapping hands should not be in lieu of salary recognition.

No, I won't be out there clapping. No point whatsoever. This whole hand-clapping thing is very tired now. It didn't achieve anything last year when we were all so full of enthusiasm, praising the NHS, and it certainly won't now.

Would anyone be willing to make a similar gesture for the police, shop workers, etc etc who have put themselves in harms way during these troubled times but who haven't been awarded any pay rise?
