Jeremy Hunt's latest wheeze

I have received the following email, and yes I've signed the petition.

Dear Geoff,

Health Minister Jeremy Hunt has a secret plan to force through changes to local NHS services to cut costs. The changes - called "sustainability and transformation plans" - are being kept secret. [1] But they could mean cuts to hospital beds, local walk-in centres or family planning services near you.

First drafts of the plans have already been drawn up across England. [2] Because they're secret, it's hard to say exactly which services near you are at risk. But the plans for one area have been leaked and show the scale of the threat - they include axing 500 hospital beds and some emergency ambulances. [3] No wonder Jeremy Hunt doesn't want us to see them!

The best way to stop these cuts is to get them out in the open and demand the public has a say. So please can you sign the petition now, demanding that Jeremy Hunt publishes his plans for local NHS cuts? It only takes 30 seconds to add your name:
SIGN THE PETITION

We have the best health service in the world, but it’s at breaking point after years of squeezed budgets and dodgy sell-off schemes. Now Jeremy Hunt wants to squeeze local services further, behind closed doors, without the public having a say.

Some doctors and nurses are already speaking out. [4] But if we're going to stop these cuts, the NHS needs all of us. People like you, your children, your grandparents, your neighbours.

It's people power that can sound the alarm - and a huge, people powered petition is a great place to start.

We all need the NHS at the best and the worst times of our lives - the maternity ward, the operating theatre, the doctor’s surgery. There'd be nothing wrong with drawing up plans to change your local NHS if they were focused on making it better for patients - but that's not going to happen if they're drawn up in secret and focused on Jeremy Hunt's cost-cutting agenda.

Not much of a secret if they (whoever they are) are emailing all and sundry about the alleged NHS cuts.

Can we assume that this missive came from your beloved Green Party?

This perhaps answers some of the questions, and Judd, no wasn't from the Green Party, although they too are involved in the opposition to it.

Hi

An interesting link UJ.

The NHS Executive, the very ones you were slagging off earlier.

No mention of cuts or privatisation at all, just cutting unnecessary costs.

Re: Jeremy Hunt's latest wheeze

Given Jeremy Hunt (the well-known typo) was co-author of a book arguing for the abolition of the NHS in favour of a health insurance based system (a la the USA), nothing he does would surprise me.

If true, this would be an excellent means of the Conservatives losing the next general election.

But wait, could that be possible? With the Limp Dems having virtually disappeared through their own incompetence, and the new New Labour party closely following suit due to the same sort of thing, who else could possibly be in the running?

Oh, yes, there's still UKIP. I'm not joking: I live in hope.

One only has to compare the last government to the current one to see what a positive effect the LibDems had on the Tories. Now, with no moderating influence...
