A former Labour parliamentary candidate suspended from the party for a series of anti-Semitic tweets in 2014 has been named vice-chair of her local Labour group in Woking. Vicki Kirby was suspended from the party in September 2014 after posting numerous tweets claiming Hitler might be the "Zionist god" and asking why Islamic State (Isis) haven't attacked "the real oppressors" Israel.
According to a Labour Party spokesperson, Kirby was investigated and the suspension was lifted later that year after she was given a warning.
Elsewhere, Kirby tweeted in 2011: "What do you know abt [sic] Jews? They've got big noses and support Spurs lol" and added in a conversation on the social media site: "We invented Israel when saving them from Hitler, who now seems to be their teacher."
As reported by political blog Guido Fawkes, it has now emerged Kirby is current vice chair of Woking Labour Party's executive committee. According to Woking Labour's website, Kirby is also described as a trade union liaison officer and communications & campaigns co-ordinator.
The news of Kirby's appointment arrived after the party became embroiled in a separate anti-Semitism row involving their members at Oxford University, which is still under investigation. The story also broke on the same day that Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn condemned the "completely unacceptable" anti-Semitic abuse being directed at MP Luciana Berger online.
A Labour spokesperson said: "Vicki Kirby was suspended from the Labour Party following comments on social media in 2014.
"Following her resignation as a Parliamentary candidate she received a warning from the NEC on her future conduct and the suspension was then lifted. If new evidence comes to light, the Labour Party will review that evidence and make sure the rules of the Party are upheld."
Labour had also recently kicked out hard-left member Gerry Downing over a blog post which suggested the 9/11 suicide bombers "must never be condemned" as their actions, were a direct response to the West.
