Forensic Science Service.

Hi

Four years after the National Forensic Science was scrapped to save £24 million a year, it is having to be reinstated.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35793073

Scrapping it has been a disaster and has cost a fortune.

It is going to cost the Government a fortune to get it back as well, because the staff they dumped so unceremoniously are not going back until they get Private Sector wages.

They sold loads off loads of very expensive equipment as well, it fetched peanuts at auction.

Other Labs were closed as well, all at great cost in terms of time, money and delays in sending stuff across the country to private labs.

I heard this on the radio this morning. It made no sense to me when they closed the FSS it seemed likely the service would become fragmented and less reliable.

Re: Forensic Science Service.

Just another example of our glorious leaders making decisions that just do not work.

There are too many examples for me to even consider listing here, but just for starters how about selling off all our Harriers cheaply to America and leaving the Royal Navy virtually defenceless for several years until some (American) replacements are available.

We could start a completely new thread on which to list all the many examples of government wastefulness, and I'm sure it could go on for many pages.

Re: Forensic Science Service.

Hi

Yes it was.

Privatisation of some services has been a costly disaster.

The equipment in my ex works Lab was stripped out and, in accordance with Government Protocols, was sold at Public Auction.

We were not allowed to put bids in to buy it ourselves direct.

Also in accordance with Government Rules, it was auctioned off, not at Specialist Auctions, but at those with the lowest Commission rates.

Which resulted in me having £17,000 worth of equipment in my garage for the princely sum of a £10 opening bid, plus 15% Buyers Commission and VAT.

Thank you Mr Osborne for that, it goes some way into you reducing my Pension by 16 % in the last two years of my working life.
