Dinosaur at the LSE

Given that this dinosaur is supposed to be an Emiritus Professor of Law and therefore conversant with the Sex Discrimination Act as well as the Equal Treatment Directive from the EU - what he is suggesting runs totally contrary to both pieces of legislation, and therefore demonstrates - he's a total prat!!!

Re: Dinosaur at the LSE

Quite simple solution really.. insist that fathers take time off work to take care of any child that he fathers. That way women could be more productive which is what the dear doctor is moaning about.

What is strange about that? I think your description of the LSE is wide of the mark anyway.

Re: Dinosaur at the LSE

Might be best to show the actual letter.

"Sir,
I understand that there is now a very high proportion of women students in our medical schools, and that many women doctors are likely in due course to move to part-time appointments.

Given that the role of medical schools must be to deliver the full-time frontline doctors that we need,
surely the number of young women allowed to begin training should be considerably limited to allow in more young men who will give a full career of medical service and provide society with much better value for the money spent on medical training.
"

Now, I expect a flogging from some here
and I do realize that in today's PC world the eminent economist's suggestion is socially unacceptable.

In strictly economic terms however, he probably has a point.
One would hope that a bloke in his situation and with his history
would be able to support his recommendation with actual statistics.

Re: Dinosaur at the LSE

In strict economic terms yes he has a point but only because child raising still falls largely on women..

I still say the biggest lie of the late 20th century was when girls were told 'you can have it all'

They cant, something has to give, someone looses out , there just aren't enough hours in the day to 'have it all'..

Re: Dinosaur at the LSE

The great problem with the PC brigade is that they revere it as their new religion, and anyone who now challenges their perceived wisdom by stating the obvious is now branded a heretic which effectively closes down the debate. Let's just be thankful that stoning to death and burning at the stake has been made illegal...

Re: Dinosaur at the LSE

Surely the solution to maternity, or other leave, cover is to recruit and train more doctors of both genders.
