MOD to allow female combat soldiers.

I don't know how I feel on this one.

The MOD have decided that women can be frontline combat soldiers, this includes close quarter fighting.

Equal rights apart
I'm not sure I like the idea.
One is the possibility of relationships developing which may have an influence on combat decisions.
The other is capture and interrogation, the threat of sexual abuse and the effect that seeing a woman being abused could have on the other prisoners.

Well I dont see how a woman can fight off a man , if it came to hand to hand fighting a mans weight would pin her to the floor .

Haven't the Israelis had women on the front line fighting alongside the men?

I agree with the strength issue when it comes to carrying kit but........there's some seriously tough and scary female soldier(esses).

This whole issue was covered in Ridley Scott's great film, G.I. Jane. Really good film with Demi Moore and Viggo Mortensen. The film covers 2 significant angles. Firstly it covers the woman's struggle to achieve a position of equality amongst a predominantly male environment, the struggle to be taken seriously, to prove her worth physically with strength and endurance etc etc. Then secondly it covers the reality that men would be affected by seeing a female comrade captured, tortured, abused and sexually assaulted.
It is a film worth watching.

Yes, I understand they have. Then there are the female Kurds who have been fighting IZAL. Something our government daren't do!

I cannot imagine why any real woman would want to go into battle anyway.

Been true in the Australian defence force for some time. When my son was in the Gulf about a third of the HMAS ANZACs complement were female including the helicopter pilot.
