Reason to Complain

I heard part of a debate today about complaints against GP's.

They were asking if we had ever felt unhappy with our treatment after visiting the GP, and what did we did about it?

Did we complain - and if so, who to?

Or do the majority go home muttering, and just vow to try and see a different doctor next time?

Made me think, because I have gone away muttering before now, but never actually put in a complaint. I just try to see someone else next time.

Having said that, I did have a few barney's with my Mum's District Nurse in the past, and her treatment at the hospital she was admitted to, but I have never complained for myself.

What do you do if you are unhappy?

I just asked to see a different GP. The first one I saw here didn't listen to what I said and gave me wrong medication.

I just don't see that doctor again. I think i.d be worried i.d get kicked off the surgery if I complained. I.ve never complained but I always see a particular doctor these days if I can as he listens to me and I don't have cause to complain.

Re: Reason to Complain

I would find it difficult to complain. I have voted with my feet in the past but it's not always an option. I usually try to see a different gp in the practice if I have a problem, but again that depends on the practice. It's down to the choice in your area. With increasing numbers of GPs retiring or closing shop it's not so easy to find a good one.

On the whole my docs are quite good...have to admit though I rarely go but they contact me for things....well woman and injections that sort of thing. I think if I was dissatisfied because I'm with a large practice I would just go to another doc rather than complain.

Re: Reason to Complain

My doctors is a huge place, a bit like a small hospital, and has around 30 doctors. For emergency appointments i will see anybody, but you soon learn which ones you relate to best!

Generally it is a good surgery but sometimes problems are caused by new methods, that don't work well, so I complain to the practice manager who can usually sort the problem.

I always think that, if you have a justified complaint but do nothing about it, how can they help to change things for the better if they don't know about them?
