Brexit Budget Failure

It would appear that the EU budget will suffer as a result of the loss of the UK's `contribution`of E27 billion over seven years as budget talks fail. France's determination to keep the CAP to aid inefficient French farmers is in direct conflict with those member countries wanting a bigger slice of the EU pie to aid their development.

And, true to form, Guy Verhofstadt is using the failed budget talks as an excuse to "centralize the EU and turn it into a proper “empire” with taxation powers of its own." A European superstate worthy of the former USSR that will abuse its power to control EU member countries and their peoples.

Looks like the UK got out in the nick of time.

You need not worry. The previous mff (2014-2020) was decided upon in december 2013. There will be a lot of meetings before any decision is reached. But nice to see you are still interested in the proceedings, even though you have left

Re: Brexit Budget Failure

You beat me to it Judd

Here is the Guardian version for the lefty remainers who refuse to believe anything else.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...exit-shortfall

Meanwhile Macron has told the council that his french fishermen demand more money in subsidies because of the UK taking back its territorial waters ... more foreign aid for the CAP that wasn't budgeted before .... oops

So ... here goes

1. The EU can't decide who will pay for the extra 70 billion that they are short of now that we have gone.

2. The minority of countries that can afford to make up the shortfall will not pay

3. They have to agree and negotiate their own budget between themselves that may take months longer than anticipated with no guarantee, meaning everything is on hold in the wonderland that is, the EU.

4. Somehow try and negotiate a trade deal with the UK in the middle of all this chaos while the UK makes deals with everyone else.

Here comes EU austerity !

Re: Brexit Budget Failure

Thing is, even before all the drawn out shenanigans of Brexit it was obvious that the EU as a trading block gone rogue was on it's last legs. Doomed to one day implode. Crumble under the dread weight of its own bureaucracy.

It always was one of those daft philanthropic Utopias where the 'poor get richer at the expense of the rich who get poorer' ... ( and no one complains)
or .. more realistically,
'the EU is only as strong as it's weakest link'.

In 10 or 20 years folk will say ..the EU? What was that?

Apparently Austria, Eire, Finland, & The Netherlands have already made comments along the lines of (and here you must try to imagine a Manchester accent)--

If yer think we're gonna pay more, yer can think again, pal

No doubt there will be others, but any kind of dissent or problems within the EU, such as the continuing protests & riots in France are very rarely reported by the BBC and the rest of the MSM

The commission will take the money off these countries whether they like it or not. If they don't pay they will lose their voting rights ... then they will have no choice.

I dunno why they couldn't see this coming a mile off... we did

Re: Brexit Budget Failure

Hi

Their problem not ours.

They need to get rid of those promoting an ever closer Union.

Macron and Verhofstadt.
