Stay Safe Dear Friends

After seeing the news that there have been 10 deaths in the UK in the last 24 hours it's obvious it is starting to take hold here now. I have decided that the best way to keep myself as safe as possible is to keep myself away from large crowds of people and no hugging, common sense isn't it. I'm finding it very hard not to hug my dad but I have to think of his safety. This morning I wore latex gloves when I had to go get dad some supplies from the supermarket, my theory is that even if it has minimal effect, any minute thing that we can think of to protect ourselves, we need to be doing. No money crossed my skin and as they say the germs lurks on money then it has to be a good thing. It might be useless but it might not be so I'll do what I need to do. I've even got Daddy wiping down with dettol, my daddy is a realist and knows that what is happening in the world right now is very real.

I really don't care if someone thinks I'm over reacting, this is about our lives and keeping ourselves as safe as possible. I haven't been able to get any handgel as I know others cant so handwashing has become a bit ocd for me but I bet I'm not alone in that.

I'm posting jokey stuff about the virus as I believe it's important to keep a sense of humour in troubled times, but we also need to be realists and do everything in our utmost power as people to save each other and ourselves. I'd rather be called a drama queen than a fool. There is no room to be blase about this pandemic.

Stay safe my dear OFF friends you are all in my prayers.

I concur with LQ regarding the use of latex gloves. However, please make sure you are not allergic to natural rubber beforehand otherwise you will be in a very poor state regarding anaphylactic shock. If you do want to wear latex gloves, please make sure they are made from nitrile (a synthetic rubber) latex or PVC and they are of the unpowdered variety.

You certainly are not over reacting Queenie. We all have to do whatever we think is right for not only ourselves but also for our family and friends. The last thing we want to do is think to ourselves if only I had taken the proper precautions. Keep calm and carry on...sensibly.

Thank you Queenie, I think you are being very sensible.

We all find our own way of coping and that helps a lot in taking the panic out of the situation.

Thinking of you all. x

If you stay safe from it who cares how you do it . Common sense is better than blind hope

Re: Stay Safe Dear Friends

LQ you are not overreacting . I have been distancing myself from others for a week, I have been on this earth 71 years and really don't feel I need to rely on others to advise what is best for my particular situation.

My DIL is a specialist nurse who has also had extensive training in disaster management and procedures and she doesn't think I am overreacting.

I know for sure that my failing local hospital (built for a local population half the size) already in emergency measures with ambulances queuing round the block hasn't a cat in hell's chance of coping with an epidemic and I don't intend being one of their failures.

Re: Stay Safe Dear Friends

Hi

Loads of hospital and clinic visits for Guy and myself.

We are not in a position to cancel.

Apart from that, w

We are being very careful and have a strict hygiene regime.

My two lodgers are still working and will have to stay with us over Easter

They are very good and we are all making sure we minimise risk.
