Why does the government keep using word Advice instead of issuing Demands?

One thing that has frustrated me during this lockdown is the number of times the government has used the word 'advice' in asking the public to do things for example 'it's advised people social distance', 'it is advised people wear face masks','it is advised people do not crowd on public transport', it's advised....it's advised...

We have seen on a daily basis that many people are not adhering to the governments 'advise'. People flocking to parks and beaches when the weather is nice and more recently, people in London crowding on the tube trains and buses. Why doesn't the government issue demands instead, like, you will wear face mask or you will not crowd public transport.

If face masks need to be worn in certain areas then make it mandatory. If social distancing needs to be in place in certain areas then make it mandatory, don't say 'well if you can't social distance at work then the advise is to do the best you can'!!!. Stop with the 'advise', make everything mandatory which then gives the police and health and safety executive strong powers to step in.

Take the tube and buses in London, they are run by TFL. If TFL are no enforcing social distancing on the public then allow the police or the health and safety executive to shut them down because it is clear from the pictures we see in the press that you cannot rely on the public to listen to the 'advice' from the government.

They are probably trying to treat us as adults rather than children? The government realises that we are still a free country and it would prefer for us to do the right thing by our free will, but no doubt they will impose these things if they have to, like they did with the lockdown...

Re: Why does the government keep using word Advice instead of issuing Demands?

The problem with issuing 'demands' rather than 'advice' in this country would be, I am assuming and how I see it, that this would require legislation to back it up. Firstly, there are not enough police to enforce legislation and secondly, to get legislation in place would take time and that would also probably be disputed by the systems we have in place in this country. Take for example recent cases where people were fined for breaching the requirements for 'social distancing', the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), one of those systems we have in place, has said these fines were illegal:

https://www.itv.com/news/2020-05-13/...d-police-told/

https://www.itv.com/news/2020-05-15/...onavirus-laws/

Probably the only way to impose any 'demands' and enforce them successfully would be as they do in other countries Ė those who disobey 'demands' are shown on news programmes being beaten with batons by 'police' or worse, shot on sight. Personally I would not like to live under that type of system and I doubt many others would either.

We are all adults and most make up our own minds as to what is sensible to do, we do not have to be 'told' what to do. The problem is when not all are sensible in that way, the few just want to do what they want to do rather than consider the effects of their selfish actions on others. It is only the few who do this too, just look at how instantly our towns and roads emptied when the original 'advice' was put out to the population.

When the numbers of deaths rise to millions might get people's attention.

Wilful ignorance a deliberate avoidance, it helps people cope with situations they have no control over.

Why does the government keep using word Advice instead of issuing Demands?

Because there would be widespread civil disobedience, protesting and even revolution Dodge. This is a free country and you can't turn it into North Korea overnight. I would certainly be manning the barriers.

It's probably slowing Muddy because there are too many recovered people that are not passing it on anymore.

I wouldn’t know .
AFAIK if you are not in a care home or are vulnerable in some other way you have a good chance of surviving this virus.
