Re: Pre- Raphaelites ...

Excellent! Love them. I have them as screen back grounds on two of my computers (the third has a Turner)

On this computer it's:

Many decades ago they were relatively affordable when I lived in London (if you had a few 10s of thousands of pounds) alas no longer.

Re: Pre- Raphaelites ...

Tabby, great topic. I have always enjoyed SOME of the pre-Raphaelites. I very much enjoy Rossetti.

I make no pretense of being any expert but I enjoy most art where I do not have to ask, "What is it" or "What does it mean ?" You will please excuse me for forgetting much of what I learned in college. It's been a long, long time.Click image for larger version

Rossetti, Waterhouse, Millais, Burn-Jones, and the rest - I love them! I find their attention to detail amazing. The richness of the colours and fabrics one can almost touch. Perhaps not everyone's cup of tea - but I love them.

One of my favourites is 'The Soul of the Rose' by Waterhouse.

Proper art, you can keep all of your "modernism", it's really not for me...

Re: Pre- Raphaelites ...

I absoutely love the pre Raphaelites .

When to a great exhibition of their work in the Royal Academy some years back . The vibrancy of their work is breath taking .
I also live not far from Kelmscott Manor the home of William Morris .He was a great supporter of the PR and his wife Jane Morris figures a many of their paintings .

Re: Pre- Raphaelites ...

Not a great photo, taken years ago of our hallway at home. (I could re-do it, it's still the same).

Sybil, a framed poster from a Burne-Jones exhibition. Some stained glass, Burne-Jones was good at that too, but this is not one of his works.

He used to live locally, the Sybil original - and one or two others - is in our town hall.

There is a story to this Meg John Milais painted the banks of the river in summer but continued to paint Orphelia in winter .
The poor model lay in a bathtub of water warmed by a small heater underneath .
Unfortunately Milais was so engrossed in his painting he often forgot to keep the heater going and the water went cold . Poor Lizzie ( who was married to Dante Rossetti ) caught her death and her father billed Milais for her medical expenses .
On a personal note she is ( very ) distantly related to my husbands family .
