New EU Ferry to lreland !!

EU is starting a new ferry service to replace the Dover/Calais
route for goods going to ROI ??
About time, why should goods bound for ROI have to travel
through England at all with all the attendant pollution and
disruption that entails, not to mention the damage caused to our
road systems ??
What moron thought of that idea in the first place???Maybe they
should extend this new idea to other ports in uk and then when
we finally get to break away from EU we can ship our newly
sourced supplies to the nearest port to the customers and only
then use truck transport for the final bit ???
Seems like nothing but positives from Brexit ???

I read about this last week, IIRC there's a few new routes direct to the republic (sounds almost like Star Wars).
It still leaves the need for thousands of trucks a month to come through the UK, but it's a start.

I don't see the point of having a ferry to go from Calais to Ireland.

Im hoping it is a start Zaphod !
And not just rhetoric ??
We need to be choosing the ports we intend to use for our hew
imports, and start installing modernised infrastructure and layouts
to take advantage of the new opportunities brexit will bring??
Brexit can be the catylist for real change in uk!!
I do realise that real change will create real opposition from some
sectors of society and all will not be plain sailing !!

Do you own a lorry Bread?? LOL!
I have explained my POV elsewhere in this thread and l fail to see
the reason for wanting to continue with the present vulnerable
one port system??

We don't have a one port system though - goods from the EU also come through other ports in the UK.

Plus, there is also air freight ....

I can't speak for other areas but I know there have been major road improvements at Immingham, plus the port has seen recent expansion and there's even a new power station in the pipeline.
So it is ready if it becomes a freeport, and ABP already says that it is the UK's largest port by tonnage.

Then we have Hull, Goole and Grimsby too with Grimsby for example receiving imported cars on "superships" carrying 9,000 at a time as well as being still the major fish market not only for Britain but for the EU.
I's also a centre for the wind energy industry and will supply most of "the north" with electricity by 2030.

Goole is the busiest inland port in the country, and Hull is the UK's leading softwood timber port as well as of course having the ferry service to Holland and Belgium.
Hull also builds those huge wind turbines, and Goole is seeing a factory being built to supply trains to the London Underground.

All of the above make this part of the world ideal in many ways for making the most of future opportunities and I'm sure this area is not alone in that.

Then why the preoccupation with Dover/Calais by all forms of media
and remainers Bread? ( dont answer that !)
I still dont agree it is a good idea to lug all that stuff all through
England to get to ROI!! Dont make sense to me??
