Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5001330)

Windows Update KB5001330 Fails To Install Windows 10 Version 20H2 - 0x80070002

No apparent reason why but, seemingly, a known error:

https://howtofixwindows.com/windows-...install-error/

Followed the instructions and restarted PC, then Update Restarted.

Installation went into a loop - cancelled it - restored PC - deferred updates.

Re: Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 20H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5001330)

New Windows 10 update is causing a whole world of pain

https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/ne...-world-of-pain

Some Windows 10 users are encountering serious problems following the release of the recent "KB5001330" update, with some reports even coming in that the update itself can't be installed on some machines.

Earlier this week, Microsoft published its new April 2021list of updates, including Windows 10 KB5001330 for version 20H2/2004, which was a mandatory download intended to patch the problems caused by the previous update, including the long-running issues with the printers.

So far, the following error messages have been reported:
  • 0x800f081f
  • 0x800f0984
  • 0x800f0922
Install at your own risk .....

KB5001330 is now causing trouble for more Windows 10 users

https://www.windowslatest.com/2021/0...dows-10-users/

It looks like the upgrade woes are far from over with the new KB5001330 cumulative update. According to new reports, Windows 10 KB5001330 update is throwing up some odd error messages when the device is connected to Windows Mixed Reality headsets and it’s also troubling enterprise customers with DNS issues.

Initially, it was believed that the KB5001330 update is only plagued with gaming and a temporary user profile bug. Users have now told us that they cannot get the update when their devices are connected to the Windows Mixed Reality headset. In fact, KB5001330 is known to cause the issue despite Microsoft stating it was a one-off issue in March updates.
KB5001330 has disappeared (withdrawn by MS?) from my new PC - I'll check my old one next.

An update happened automatically yesterday when I was charging my laptop. I don't know which one it was, but all seems well at the moment. I really dislike how they "make" you update, no matter how long you defer it for.

You can find out which updates have been applied by going to:

Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > View update history

KB5001330 will be listed under Quality Updates

The update hasn't negatively impacted everyone so you may not experience problems.

Yes I just checked (thanks), it IS that same one. No problems yet, but surely we shouldn't have to be anxious about these things?

No need to be anxious, especially nowadays.

If an update causes problems it can (usually) be uninstalled.

You'ds also "covered" if you're taking daily backups and restore checkpoints - the latter is usually initiated by Windows Update anyway.

I spent some time today destroying all traces and remnants of KB5001330 then downloading and reinstalling - even though there were several points at which the process appeared to be stuck, I let it continue and, eventually, the process completed OK.
