Cats

I have not had a cat since I was a small girl. We have always had dogs.
For those of you who are cat people, I have a question?
What age do cats live too.

My OH was talking to his mother she is (85). Who has now got a cat, she normally has a dog. Her Grandson got her the kitten about 7 months ago. After her dog of 13 years died.

Mother in law said cats can live to about 30yrs of age. We both found this a bit unbelievable. I thought about 17yrs old.

Re: Cats

Shaz, I think it would be quite rare for a cat to live to 30! My two previous cats lived to 21 and 18 which was good.

Re: Cats

My cat, Cassie, is 15 this year .

Kazz, a member here and also on Catsey, had two cats Oscar and Cleo, who lived until 23 and 24 respectively ........ a wonderful age. They were Catsey's oldest cats

Re: Cats

It would be very rare if a cat lived to age 30. Average old age is around 15/16, which my oldest cats lived to.

However, many years ago we had Pushkin who was a stray who chose to live with us. She'd been hanging around the back garden from being a kitten of around six months old and, at approximately four years old, she decided to move in. I guess she was making sure that we'd be good servants.

She was a very active cat and lived to approximately age 21, but she could have been a little older than that.

Re: Cats

Well Sparky was 14 last week and is as sprightly as a kitten, still bringing in the odd bird or mouse (naughty) and fighting off any local cat that dares to wander in, so he's still got it in him.

Re: Cats

my parents had three cats who lived a very long life, the two girls who were sisters lived to be 18 years old, and Jack a huge black and white persian cross lived for 16 years.

They have a British Blue now she is 8 years old and acts like a kitten

Re: Cats

Thank you everyone, for your information.
Cats seem to live a lot longer than dogs. Now 23 is a real good age.
I think somebody may have told my Mother in law, a bit of a yarn.

Sorry it's took so long to answer, not been to well over this weekend.
