Re: those quaint english sayings - what do they really mean?

When I was researching my family history in 2002 I visited a museum in Liverpool. There was a replica of a back to back house set up just as my forebears would have lived in.
MY grandfather was a cotton porter, lifting cotton bales all day, weighing 2 hundredweight each.
He had a big hook with which he used to swing the bales onto his back. When he returned to his lodgings at night he would hang up his hook in the hallway. If he lost his job the landlady might say GO & SLING YER HOOK.

Another one.
She goes all round the church to get to the chapel.
It's enough to freeze the balls off a pawn brokers shop.

When my grandma had eaten a meal she would say 'Well that's another one more and another one less'. Quite true of course.

This geriatric Aussie recalls an oft-used line in Steptoe & Son ...

"ya randy scouse git ..."

To this day, the best I can think is "you sex-starved ??? ??? "
