I'm afraid I'm a traditionalist; I prefer poetry that rhymes and scans. A big lover of Kipling; about the "latest" poet I enjoy who uses free verse is T.S. Eliot. Definitely not with it ......

Is that the one Plantman - or is there a rude version you know?

Re: Do you listen to poetry?

I think it was his ear that dropped off...in the version I heard anyway !

Seriously though it's recorded poetry that gets me, not so much the written word which I have a serious block on, probably because the way it was taught in school.....so borrrrrrrrring.

I actually don't care too much on rhyming poetry...in general...with exceptions.

It has to rhyme surely, if it doesn't then why call it poetry?

Re: Do you listen to poetry?

I hate poems that have no Rhyme to them, they are just a short story not a poem.

One of the most touching ones I have printed on linen attacted to a greetings card was sent by a girl friend to my uncle during WW1.

There is someone who thinks of you often
And thinks the time long since you went
There is someone who misses you badly
Yet tries to be brave and content
Now this some is sending you all their love
And promises to be faithful and true
Do you wish this someone was with you
This some belives that you do.

Not necessarily. It's all about rhythm and timing. I don't recall the technical terms as I'm more into the art than the theory.

Here's an example from Bukowski (my current obsession), no rhym at all.

Sorry, it's a bit dark for many tastes, but that was Bukowski:
