Re: Yet another tragedy

A terrible occurrence which is bound to have very serious repercussions. My sincere condolences to the families of all those who were aboard.

Re: Yet another tragedy

Every cloud... My Malaysian Airways ticket from Sydney to Alor Setar via KL was only $711 return and includes the domestic flight as well, that is cheaper than the Air Asia return fare to KL.

The normal return fare is about $1300+. I suspect they will have lots of special fares now after two tragedies within 12 months.

Anyway early to bed, I have to get up at 5am to drive to Sydney in the morning to pick up my daughter and her husband when they fly in from Europe. They don't care about the money they are flying Qantas. (Didn't stop everybody and his dog ringing me up today asking what flight they were on, shows people are concerned)

The irony is is that the drive from the airport is probably the most dangerous part of their journey.

Not sure what to say about that Bruce seems a bit insensitive when so many have and may still lose their lives

Relax.... this is not the first time..

• Another Korean Air flight was brought down by the USSR on 1 September 1983. The Boeing 747 civilian airliner from New York to Seoul was shot down by a Soviet jet just west of the Russian island of Sakhalin killing all 269 passengers and crew, including US congressman Larry McDonald. The Russians believed it was a US military surveillance plane and fired tracer rockets as a warning but it did not respond, the Soviet fighter pilot later said. US president, Ronald Reagan called the shoot down "a massacre".

Here in the States, we are NOW hoping that Europe will join us in stricter sanctions against Russia.. Hopefully...

On 3 July 1988 the US warship USS Vincennes fired a surface-to-air missile to shoot down Iran Air flight 655 travelling from Bandar Abbas in Iran to Dubai. All 290 passengers, mostly Iranians on a pilgramage to Mecca, and all the crew were killed. US Navy officials later said the Vincennes' crew believed they were firing at an Iranian F14 jet fighter, the plane was off the usual commercial route and did not respond to requests to change course. Iran called it "a barbaric massacre".

It's easy to say relax when you aren't so close to the war zone. Not overly worried just concerned where it will end. Not helped though by the comments coming out of America by John Mccain IMO

You do realize that if Russia decides to zap you WE are bound by treaty to get our butts into it too??? AND.. close or not.. intercontinental balistic missiles can get to us too..

John McCain is an ass.... I wish he would shut his yap and retire already.. Him and his breathless sister Lindsey Graham.... never met a war they didn't want to get into.

There was no call for 'sanctions' against America in 1988, so why would America want to impose 'sanctions' against Russia now??? Although the Russian dissidents in Eastern Ukraine appear to be responsible, it hasn't yet been determined so and currently there is no evidence that the Russians per se condoned or even knew about it.

Re: Yet another tragedy

Also.. the only reason Europe is not so anxious to join the US in strict sanctions is because you get most of your energy from and through Russia... Don't want to cut off your gas supplies... We on the otherhand do not..
