Re: Wasps nest

I remember my very first wasp sting....I was 3.

Stood with my dad in Barmouth, waiting to cross the railway.

I will never forgive the evil little bastid.

I would be tempted to get rid on the nest!

I agree Twink.
I had to call a pest controller when Mum had a nest above her front door because they were getting through into her hallway.
Once the man had finished his job, we started finding dead bodies all over the house, so more of the blighters had been creeping through than I had realised.

Untrue that wasps only sting when provoked.

At the age of about 10, I was stung by a swarm of wasps ...

For a wasp to be chasing you ... you must be running away

That's logical Malcolm. I was.
What you didn't ask was why I running away.
Because I didn't want to get stung when it dive bombed at me.

Re: Wasps nest

I would say bees normally only sting if provoked, but I've always thought wasps more aggressive.

You were probably running away waving your arms around and screaming...and wasps don't 'dive bomb'

Sorry folks but I am tempted to agree with Malcolm here and don't think a wasp attacks unless provoked. We just need to remember that provocation to a small insect can be something as small as hair, or clothes, blowing in the wind... a wasp stung my arm because my hair had alarmed it. Another stung my arm when I answered the phone and then lowered my elbow, not knowing that a wasp had settled on the side of my top. They are painful but I am fairly certain that they don't think " Look at that person, I think I will go and sting him/her"
