Re: Dead Men Walking

And I don't see evidence of "a compelling case of bribery" playing a part in this. It appears that someone tried to bribe the judges NOT to hand down the death sentence, without success.

I very much like the attitude in Norway where no sentence for anything is longer than 21 years. Well done them, there are civilised countries in the world.

Re: Dead Men Walking

Until they are able to bring back the victims in 21 years I would very much campaign against that here. Even now we seem to forget the victims rather too often for my comfort.

Re: Dead Men Walking

No-one could know for sure unless they were in the same position but I suspect that I might actually prefer the death sentence to being in an Indonesian jail for the next 20 odd years.

I don't suppose that the Indonesian government is any more hypocritical than any other in its support for its own citizens.

Re: Dead Men Walking

An Indonesian jail for 20 odd years? I think I'd volunteer for the death sentence..............

I watched a documentary about death row in America. Two men locked away for a few years. Locked in their own world, as no one really wanted anything to do with them in jail. What kind of life is that? In both cases they were put to death by lethal injection. Put out of their misery I felt.

Re: Dead Men Walking

I watched their families, pleading on tv earlier. It was heartbreaking, but it still did not take away the fact that they must have known what they were doing. I personally cannot comprehend killing anyone by death sentence, but it's what happens in certain parts of the world and who knows if they have the right idea? Hopefully it will put others off trying the same.

Re: Dead Men Walking

Death sentence threat does not stop the drug running, being caught does in those countries that have Capital punishment, cruel solution, but quicker than many of their victims descent into the terminal act.
