Re: Insect Bites

Thing was with mine ... I inadvertently gave one a good scratch.

Big big mistake. It swelled up and went into itchy overdrive.

Re: Insect Bites

Peppermint toothpaste is good for emergency sting/bite relief, I've tried it and it did help. It has to be paste though and not the gel type toothpaste.

Do you know Mags, I just this minute read that on a website.
Mine is a gel though. However, I've just dabbed some lavender essesntial oil on and that seems to have eased them temporarily - plus I smell nice too.

I don't even know what got me, it may have been an ant up me trouser leg?

Next time, spray yourself with insect repellent before you go to work in the garden.
I always do that now as I've had a lot of bad reactions in the past.

Tiger Balm seems to be a 'cure all' for almost anything - and it does work. Bit unfair on the Tigers though, Swimmy, few enough around as it is !

Re: Insect Bites

Mups the hydrocortisone cream reduces the inflammation, so consequently the itch and the bites should be fading within a couple of days.
View them regularly because, if you get a blistery rash, it could have turned into cellulitis and that needs rapid anti biotic treatment. It is usually caused by insect bites and stings, but if it isn't treated quickly, you can end up in hospital on intravenous anti biotics.
I am sure you will be alright, but keep your eye on them and, as Morty said,Stop scratching!
