These things come and go, we are in a similar situation. Australia unfortunately has an ideologue for a Prime Minister at the moment however it may well be that he is leading one of those rare creatures, a one term government.
There is no one in the the current parliament of any stature, in the main they seem to be poll driven, party toadies who have never had a proper job and have all the political nous of a carrot.
We have been very lucky with the economy set up for us by a series of good visionary leaders in the form of Hawke, Keating and even little Johnny Howard. Hopefully it will tide us over until someone of substance comes along in the not too distant future.
What the world doesn't need at the moment is another GFC because there is no fat left, the danger is that the low interest rates will lead to just that.
