Blocked bathroom sink

I've tried various things to unblock it including pouring bleach down and using one of those sink unblocker brushes all to no avail, it's one of those push up thingymabobs and the water is going down as slow as a sloth! any ideas would be sooooo appreciated

Re: Blocked bathroom sink

Must be a blockage further down the pipe ,if you have a long piece of rigid wire, like a wire coat hanger, wiggle that down. Could be a hair ball blocking it .

Re: Blocked bathroom sink

A good sink plunger would maybe do it - Could you borrow one? I regularly pour washing soda and hot water down to stop any build up of nasties!!

If you go to an old-fashioned DIY shop they'll sell you a really strong bleach which will shift anything.

Re: Blocked bathroom sink

can't use a plunger as it's the pop up type not a normal plug, I'll try the washing soda tip, anything is worth a go!

Eliza, I've used one of those long bendy sink unblocker brushes but it was clean.

If I knew which pipe to disconnect to see if one was blocked I'd try that but if I got the wrong one, water could pour down from the mains!

Re: Blocked bathroom sink

I use soda and pour boiling water down the plug hole,it might take a couple of treatments but I find this works.

Re: Blocked bathroom sink

Tip a small carton of baking soda down it, follow that with a cup of vinegar, immediately pour a kettleful of boiling water down it - it will froth - but it should clear it.

ok so I've tried it and it certainly has improved but still not as it should be so I repeated it and it was gurgling away!

I think part of the problem is the fitted pop up sink plug as it only seems to allow a little water to flow away at a time, it would be easier and more straightforward if it was the basic plug as it would open the plughole to let more water down at once
