Supermarket giant Woolworths has just had its bottom smacked for its recent advertising campaign 'Fresh in Our Memory'. They escaped a $50000 fine because they pulled the promotion with in hours.





The Minister for Veteran Affairs has lashed out at supermarket giant Woolworths for trivialising the Anzac memory in a widely derided social media campaign and warned Australian corporations they face fines of up $50,000 for similar behaviour.

It is important that the word is not trivialised or used inappropriately and I believe it was in this campaign

An incensed Senator Michael Ronaldson, who is also Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of Anzac, said he rang Woolworths about 7pm on Tuesday to demand the company remove its "fresh in our memories" campaign.

In an Interview on the 7.30pm Historian Dr Carolyn Holbrook is horrified by the hijacking of the Anzac Day brand.



The t-shirt is ‘Anzac porn—a new low in the commercialisation of Anzac’, according to Holbrook. Honest History has provided information about the t-shirt and other Anzac brand items to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, which administers the regulations which control the use of the word ‘Anzac’. Some of these items are sold from the United States and we will be interested to see if this gets them out of abiding by the Australian regulations.

Retailer Target has been forced to pull three Anzac branded items from its Camp Gallipoli range after the government deemed them “inappropriate”.

A beanie hat, a hoodie and a foam can holder, have been pulled from shelves this week amid a clampdown from the Department for Veterans’ Affairs on use of the word Anzac on products, triggered by the public outcry over Woolworths’ ‘Fresh in our memories’ campaign.
