I'm Muslim ... Hug me ?

Muslim blindfolds himself and stands among mourners in French capital
Stands by placards saying: 'I trust you. Do you trust me? If yes, hug me'
To his delight, dozens of tearful onlookers approach him one by one
He later thanks them all, saying: 'I did this to send a message to everyone'
It was a simple message, but one which tore down barriers and brought a ray of hope to a country reeling from the worst terror attacks in its history.
As mourners gathered in Paris to honour victims killed by Islamist fanatics, one Muslim man stood among them and asked if they would embrace him.
After blindfolding himself, he positioned himself next to a placard which read: 'I'm a Muslim, but I'm told that I'm a terrorist. I trust you, do you trust me? If yes, hug me.'

Would you?

.

Hug me if you trust me, I'm told I'm a terrorist, says Muslim in Paris

Well certainly brought a tear to my eye - a wonderful gesture and so pleased people embraced it

Re: I'm Muslim ... Hug me ?

Yes I would give him a hug but I also feel so sad he had to
do this to prove as a Muslim he is not dangerous.

Today walking down the street I had a long scarf over
my hair as it was going everywhere with the strong wind.
I passed a lady and she was pushing her pram. Much
younger than me with her headscarf on and her long
skirt. She smiled as she went past me as normally
with the scarf, my long skirt and sandals I look like
THE EXAMPLE of what a Muslim lady looks like.

I am not, I am pure English for the last 500 years in
a family not really religious. Her smile and my smile
back proved to me we are all the same and religion
should not come into it.

How sad that this man has to do this to prove he is not a terrorist.

I didn't find it sad - but inspirational
He took the lead - and if it makes people come to their sense then very worthwhile
I hope that's the way he sees it now - must have lifted his spirits

Re: I'm Muslim ... Hug me ?

I'm not sure I would have hugged him.
Something seems 'off' about it all, though for the life of me I can't put my finger on it.

It's one thing saying ....
'I trust you. Do you trust me? If yes, hug me'

It seems he's trying to make another point entirely to do the same with a placard saying ...

'I'm a Muslim, but I'm told that I'm a terrorist. I trust you, do you trust me? If yes, hug me.'

A bit like some have criticised anyone adopting the French flag in support of France ..something doesn't appeal to me about this.

It appeals to me and its a shame that some find it sad
People cannot help the fear and lack of trust, but he has gone a long way in helping to build the trust again

Re: I'm Muslim ... Hug me ?

I think it's rather a sad story. Of course we can't really know, but I get the impression that he needs reassurance after the terrorist attacks. I feel he has a sense of loss and needs others to reassure him that his world is not caving in.

Yes, I would have hugged him.
