Beware of Spiders

I have just read in my gardening magazine that sightings of the False Widow spider, which bites, have been reported in gardens all over the UK.
Normally they have mostly been spotted in the South.

Think I will familiarize myself on exactly what they look like.

Here you are, Mups. We have lots here & I do kill them if I see them. Mostly I see their very untidy webs though, as the spiders are crafty. They won't attack unless provoked, but our next door neighbour got bitten by one when he was clearing out his shed. He was ill for several weeks, not everyone is allergic to their bites, but as I am allergic to wasp, bee stings & horsefly bites I'm not taking any chances with them.
This is the nasty one.....

They also hang on the underside of their webs another way to identify them.

Re: Beware of Spiders

No, Nom, do not kill any of the other spiders, they all belong here & are harmless. Only the Steatoda nobilis needs culling regularly. If I hadn't done this over the years they would have taken over my sun lounge, nasty things.

Re: Beware of Spiders

There are Harvestmen living in my garage - having had one nasty bite last year I am leaving them alone !

Had never seen a False Widow so thanks, Tiffany, for the information.
