A story that you may need tissues to read.

A couple of months ago a mother and her 8 year old son moved to this town. About 3 weeks ago the little boy was killed in a house fire and last week I heard that his mother had committed suicide, maybe because she couldn't cope with the loss of her son.
At lunch time today, I drove past the main church and the little boy's funeral was taking place. A pale blue coffin with a few mourners, who I expect were close family, but why was the town high street full of people clutching helium filled balloons. There must have been 300 people from the town, who had gone to say farewell to the boy and I assume the balloons were significant to him.
I haven't been able to stop tears trickling down my face since, even though I didn't know the boy or his mum.
I don't believe in life after death, but I really hope I am wrong, because I would love to think that this little boy and his mum have been reunited.

The money spent on those helium balloons, which were not appreciated by the dead boy, would have been better donated to charity.

If there is a life after death which I hope there isn't, it is possible we would not be the same people we are in this life, and would not know our former relatives.

I think the cost of the balloons is irrelevant as they were paid for by well meaning members of the town who just wanted to say farewell to a little boy who appeared to have no father or mother to do that. I assume there was some significance to them as all the people down the high street had brought different ones. I just assumed they were filled with helium as they were all on strings but floated in the air.

What a sad story Twink, and we sometimes think we have troubles, nothing is as bad as the loss of ones child, may they both rest in peace.

Woah hard approach Tarantula.

The balloons could have provided some relief for the remaining relatives and gave them hope that some people actually do care.

It is sometimes worth putting yourself in the shoes of the father and remaining siblings.

I still think it would have been better donated to charity. Personally I think funerals are a waste of money, the dead aren't around to appreciate them.

A very sad story, Twink. I wonder if the balloons showed a unity amongst the community who would have been grieving the loss...the mourners would see them all and know and understand. (Just my thoughts.)
