Persimmon?

The other day, l was given a Persimmon fruit!
I had never heard of such a fruit before and l am still mystified as to what it is or what l should do with it... besides eat it!
It looks like a wax tomato!
Can anyone shed light on this peculiar fruit and what's the best thing to do with it? Thank You!

Re: Persimmon?

Just google it-Sharon fruit. I`ve eaten a couple and was so so about them. But that was supermarket bought. Had I picked one fresh in a foreign land may have been another story.

Re: Persimmon?

We have a small persimmon tree. Don't get an awful lot of fruit of it, but those we do I use as I would pears. They also make a lush jelly, much nicer than cranberry with the Christmas turkey!

Re: Persimmon?

I swear to god I posted in this thread - even went back and checked it for typos and such.
Wonder where the hell it went ?

Surely no 'Mod' took umbrage about persimmons ?!

Re: Persimmon?

Alright !
All I said was that I eat the buggers all the time - in season.
You have to let them get really ripe (soft and slightly mushy) or they're bitter.

Just scoop out the flesh with a spoon - and spit out the seeds.
Great with vanilla ice cream.

I thought it was a cheese that you grated over food.

Re: Persimmon?

I"ve had them and TBH , didn"t really rate them.
Rather bland but then each to their own.
