They didn't want to end up in Helheim?

My bit of research tells me that Helheim (the underworld) is the origin of the name `Hell` stolen/borrowed by Christians (as were most Pagan religious beliefs) the difference being that the Christian hell is a place for punishment.

A vikings worse fear was to die in battle without a sword in his hand apparently they could not enter Valhalla without a sword.
