Does anyone remember?

Returning pop bottles and getting money for them?

I can't quite recall how much it was, probably pennies but it still didn't stop us kids dilligently searching for empty corona bottles to take back and get that precious money.

Do you think it would be a good idea to bring this back?

Don't know about pop bottles Shroppy, but I vaguely remember some men taking beer bottles back I believe.

I suppose nowadays most things are in plastic throw-away bottles so that put pay to that.

Yes my brother says they still do it in USA, we throw too much away and rely on recycling schemes that don't seem to work.

Re cycle is good. I made a penny here and there trading Tizer bottles then later,checking the change from the shop to see if a certain coin was worth more than it`s face value,. It`s how I remember funding myself at 12.

We collected beer bottles rather than pop bottles. It was our major source of income as kids. We'd knock on doors asking if they had any beer bottles to return. Then it was down to The Flags to get the money!

Yes I remember it well & taking a jam jar for Saturday morning pictures if you didn't have the entry fee.
Good heavens I am way old.

Did the jam jar pay for your entry into the cinema Tiffany? I've never heard of that before.

There was an Off Licence at the corner of my road. I used to hop over the wall, nick a few empties, take 'em in the shop and get the money back. Never did get caught.

Here in on the mainland its still normal to have a deposit on pop bottles and glass beer bottles as well as the plastic crate..
Some places are more fanatical than others in Germany there is a deposit on a can on drink too!
