Reminds me so much of Middlesbrough when I was growing up surrounded by steelworks, shipyards.
Born in a 2 up 2 down in me grans house on Cannon Street/Newport may sound silly but there are days when I miss it so much, and yes I do shed the odd tear.
Growing up working in the foundry's and shipyards and the furnaces and rolling mills of Cargo Fleet Steel plants.
Our working class in the British Steel got sacrificed to keep the Welsh happy all British Steel investment went to Port Talbot.
Our lads in the shipyards got sacrificed to keep the Tyne and Clyde workers happy. The same could be said for places like Sc*nthorpe and Sheffield as well their steelworker's suffered just as well.
We still haven't recovered from the 60/70s to this day.
Jobs are still few and with no investment it will never recover.
On the plus side we have more green fields.
I suppose if we were all cows and sheep we would be happy.
Gets off his soapbox and walks away ..
