Re: Ciara

Hi

Less than a mile from me part of a factory roof has come off and landed on a house.

That's what happened here strangely. Chucked it down and howled since yesterday dinner time, throughout the night, and thunderstorms until about 2PM today. Sun came out although still breezy, and now the thunderstorms, rain and gales are back with a vengeance.

Re: Ciara

Over two and a half thousand homes lost power last night due to Ciara, luckily most people have gas boilers and cars that run on fuel.

I used to think that until an electricity cut affected me, the gas boiler wouldn't work when the safety cut-out being tripped due to there being no electricity. I think it might have been called a 'thermal cut-out', not too sure but no heating until the power came back on again.

Ok, I'll give you that but at least you can boil a kettle on the gas hob.

No idea about that, are gas hobs / cookers not subject to the same safety cut-out? My cooker / hob is electric, my only way out it seems would be a Calor gas camping stove!

Yep I don't think the boiler would work if the thermostat was switched off.

I thought the electrics were just for the clock/timer and the ignition spark?
