Re: Over 50's Club Scotland (part 3)

A raised bed allotment sounds brilliant, Pixie! My dad had an allotment when I was a child and I used to love going to it with him. I couldn’t manage one by myself but raised beds - that sounds ideal.

lovely here this morning, I've been in the garden tidying and pruning. Roxy, a lot of selfish people leaving their litter behind, there's no need for that, spoiling a beautiful place ..

Re: Over 50's Club Scotland (part 3)

Afternoon, Back in the wars today fell over a rock and busted my foot up, pouring with blood and took forever to stop. Real sore and feeling like a right idiot. Been sitting out in the sun in a sheltered bit, not much else I can do as it hurts to move about. Sheezze trust me, and it's only Monday.
Hope your all having a better day.

Yes Sue, raised beds are the way forward! Saves the back. Going to see them tomorrow so that should be fun. 8ft x 4ft they are, and I'm wee, so its perfect!

Any raised bed would have to be about 4 ft off the ground for me. I don't know what's going on with my back and hips but I've seized up. I really miss my Aquafit classes which helped my flexibility and general fitness. These days I creak about like a robot.
Interested to hear about the North Coast 500. My husband is keen to do it so your comments are great ammunition. The prospect of beating a coach load to the only loo was horrifying. To be fair we had heard that the infrastructure wasn't up to the sheer numbers of tourists.

Re: Over 50's Club Scotland (part 3)

You could go outside the main season, Jane10. Less pressure on facilities then. It’s a wonderful trip.

Re raised beds, I've eyed those vegetable boxes on legs that they now sell in garden centres. They’d be waist height. My problem is where to put stuff like that. We’re on the side of a hill and we’ve lots of steps down to the main garden so moving things like bags of compost about is difficult. I love this house and area but the difficult garden access is what would make me want to move.

Re: Over 50's Club Scotland (part 3)

I saw a programme about a very posh hotel on the North Coast 500 route. Didn't look like a place bus parties would stop at! Suspect its very expensive.
I would like to see the Castle of Mey. I love Wemyss pottery and heard that the Queen Mother's collection was very interesting.

Re: Over 50's Club Scotland (part 3)

The Castle of Mey is open seven days a week from 1 May until 30 September each year, but closed for ten days at the end of July and the beginning of August, when Charles and Camilla usually stay there. We see them flitting about often while they're here.
The castle's rooms are not very big, smaller than you'd expect, it looks huge from the outside but it's a small castle, I love the dining room with the view out over the ocean and it's lovely private beach. Hope your able for narrow stone circular stairs, the place us full of them.
