Funnily enough there are three buses that run between the nearest town and our village, the 7, 8, and yes, 9. And as the no.9 is the one that leaves and stops directly outside my flat, I tend to catch it almost every day.

A cat o' nine tails actually did have nine strands - it was a 'whip' made of leather thongs with knots tied in the thongs too - used as a punishment aboard Royal Naval vessels during the 18th & 19th Century.

Maybe Charlie was an old music hall character, that dressed up like Danny La Rue, maybe he 'slipped' on stage and popped his clogs ! Due to stepping on his underskirt - ya see - all makes sense now - dont it !!
