My Grandfather on the western front. He is the fellow at the front - invalid out in 1917 after being gassed he had one lung until his death in 1969.


His brother survived the entire war only to die on the 27th November 1918 of flu and is buried in Longuenesse (St Omer) Cemetery

Great to see all those old photo's, we all seem to have had somebody in the military connected with one of the two wars, my Granddad was gassed in the first one, then died when my mother was only a child.

I agree. If you are a baby boomer (and being a member of this forum would suggest that most would be) then I should think all of us have fathers and grandfathers who were involved in the two world wars.

On the bright side they would have to be the survivors too.

Brilliant picture - I can see the likeness too .....
Cant help shedding a tear with images of WW1 - always gets me

My first year in primary school - I'm the one on the far left with an interest on what the camera man was doing.
It was taken in Granby Street, Liverpool at the end of the WW2. The actor Leonard Rossiter is there somewhere - I can't remember him.
