Help with Rum Baba recipe.

Wondering if anyone can help me with an oldfashioned Recipe called RUM BABAS.

Have a friend who remembers them when she visited England many years ago and would like to make them.

I got a recipe off the BBC site but feel sometimes a homemade one is far better.

Never made them myself Sandi although I remember have one or three
when I was a teenager. I think you have to get the dough stiff and then
put the sugar and rum sauce over it. A little like making drunken bread
Have a go Sandi and just use a small amount of ingredients and see how
they go. I looked on my search engine and there are quite a few good
recipe. Let us know how you get on.

Re: Help with Rum Baba recipe.

There are plenty rumbaba recipes about, some better than others. Its just a matter of finding the correct one, which is easier said than done.

I do not make them very often, but when I do, I use an italian recipe "babbà napoletana." When available, I will use pizza flour and honey in place of sugar.

Thanks all for your advice. I did get her a recipe off the net and yes there are often ones that aren't nice. Hence me asking because I always think personal recipes are the ones to get home cooks have them down to a fine art and they are often ones handed down through the family.

Glad you managed to get a recipe Sandi. I've never even tasted rum babas, let alone make them. I would like to try them some time

Oh I love them, one of my all time favourites. I had one recently in a restaurant but it was a disappointment, not like the ones I remember. They were very popular back in the 70's.

Yes Anita, that's why a like a home cook's recipe. Someone's own special recipe is always the nicest.

Never tried them myself either and friend lives over 2,000 miles away so won't try hers either.
