My apologies; I stand corrected.
My memory must be letting me down, as I thought I'd read something to the contrary elsewhere on this forum. It must have been something other than that referendum.
Nevertheless, it is important to realise that the 1975 referendum was regarding membership of the EEC, and that organisation was a different kettle of fish to what we have now: the EU.
As I have said before, many times, I personally would be very happy to be a member of the EEC, or another organisation of the same type - a free-trade organisation.
I am certainly not happy to be a member of the EU - a political dictatorship in which the governing body (the one that makes all the laws and regulations), the Commission, is composed of 28 members of which we Brits elect but one. Is that fair when we are the second highest financial contributor to the coffers?
I'd much prefer to be governed by a body of 650 of which we elect all of them!
