Which is why I have always ignored all the invitations to install a smart meter!

OK. Suppose there are 20 houses in your street. Say 10 of them are smart meters and 10 don't. How do you work out what the energy is going to each of them?

Those who have the 'advantage' of having a smart meter will have the 'advantage' of their use of energy being reported to their supplier via t'internet on a regular basis.

Those of us without smart meters will not!

But the 230V single phase supply will be the same at each of the houses in the street.

Re: smart metres

I thought this was about the leccy companies gathering data so that they can see which areas are using power and when and thereby plan the need for backup in certain areas rather than targeting a particular household. It's to avoid power outages isn't it?

As far as I know, the leccy companies in most cases do not generate the power, nor control how the power is distributed.

Unless the "suppliers" pass the consumption data to the generating companies and distribution companies, I don't see how this would work.

It's thought that they can also check what you get up to in bed.
