Re: Thank God We are Out of the EU ...

Good point. Cannot see that the contracts will differ.

EU did not understand what they were agreeing to the only logical explanation.

In the hope they would say "no", probably.

Now that it's published (link below) it's easy to spot the obvious problem and it shows beyond reasonable doubt just how desperate and scheming the EU are even when the wording is perfectly clear.
This is the bit, around half way down Page 2:
"AstraZeneca has committed to use its Best Reasonable Efforts (as defined below) to build capacity to manufacture 300 million doses ...."

The definition of what constitutes "Best Reasonable Efforts" is contained below that in 1.9 of definitions.

There is nothing in the above that is suggestive of AZ currently doing any other than the EU requested in that contract.
The difficulties in ramping up production have very clearly been explained by AZ and the evidence exists from the UK of such problems, as does the three months extra time from the EU's order.
Basically, the EU are blustering windbags.

Here is a link to the link; please note that the actual contract is contained within another link in the box right at the end called "APA - AstraZeneca.pdf".

Look for "bit.ly/2MBIaoU" in here first and click for the pdf download, in the 5th paragraph:

Looking at the contract your surmise is absolutely correct.

Excellent picture! I suppose only those who have seen Dad's Army will understand it, though!

Certainly, we are fully aware of how the EU works, but I wonder how much the ordinary people of the EU countries know, and importantly, how much the people of the rest of the world really know.

I sincerely hope that the press and media serving all free nations have made everything patently clear to their readers and viewers. If so, what the EU are doing now is bound to come back and bite them on the bum.

The USA media certainly have; India and a few others too and all seem to be scathing in their coverage of the EU's actions.

Nowadays though the widest coverage is via electronic media from a large variety of sources, but again most of the coverage - and there is lots - is as condemning of the EU as we would expect.

Here is the India Time Post's headline for example:
"EU vaccine CHAOS: AstraZeneca loyal to UK and Brussels HUMILIATED as jab row turns ugly"

A Reddit headline example:
"EU threatens war-time occupation of vaccine makers as AstraZeneca crisis spirals"

The EU's inspecting a vaccine factory hasn't helped the world's opinion of the EU either.
Coming as it does after the EU's protectionist stance at the start of the pandemic (remember when Russia helped out Italy because the rest of the EU wouldn't, for just one?) the whole debacle will cost the EU dearly - both internally as a "union" and externally as yet again they have been very clearly shown to be little more than a bunch of bullies.

As of Saturday, the EU will be able to keep track of all vaccines that are produced on the continent and have the power to block exports to countries that are not exempt from the order.

There remains uncertainty as to whether this is just a mechanism for the EU to reassert authority or if it means vaccine doses headed for the UK from the EU will be blocked in the coming weeks. This comes as the European Commission faces increasing pressure from European member states to take action after an embarrassing week for the EU's vaccine programme.

So far ministers have been determined not to get drawn into what they view as a dispute between AstraZeneca and the EU. This could become harder to maintain in the coming weeks. This escalation from the EU side also puts pressure on Nicola Sturgeon. The First Minister has said she plans to publish the vaccine doses Scotland expects each week, even though ministers have asked her not to, on the grounds that it would give sensitive information to the EU that could be used to limit the UK's supply. To do so when vaccine deliveries could be blocked from arriving in the UK would be a high-stakes move indeed.
Just what is her game.

She's a foreign agent.

We used to shoot them dead in the old days.

Media restrictions maybe, must keep up the approval ratings.
