Do you keep learning ?

After school and all formal education did you ever go in later life to night classes or any other type of learning ?
I left school at 15 as my father would not support his daughters in any futher education as he said it was a waste of time as we would marry and just have children.

So later when I had some money I did lots of different things at night school and day classes from psychology, cooking , upholstry, herbal medicine, story writting and now french ....
What did you do ?

Re: Do you keep learning ?

I might not take formal qualifications but heck I learn something each and every day. In fact I have an insatiable appetite for knowledge in one form or another. I like to learn from people - news - books - forums - everything. Isn't that what people consider to be wisdom at the end of the day?

Re: Do you keep learning ?

I'm not sure whether I'm learning still. I tend to learn by a process only of "Need to know".

I spend a fair amount of time grazing on the internet reading about things that interest me. Some of it I retain, mostly it is instantly forgotten.

I beg to differ from the view that knowledge equals wisdom.
This next extract explains better than I can...

Many people mistake knowledge for wisdom because they are intimately related, and this is unfortunate because they are quite different in an important way. Knowledge is the accumulation of facts and information. Wisdom is the synthesis of knowledge and experiences into insights that deepen one’s understanding of relationships and the meaning of life. In other words, knowledge is a tool, and wisdom is the craft in which the tool is used.

A subtle difference I suppose but I thought I'd make the point.anyway.

I think I do this instinctively, or eh automatically (nasty word), or eh needfully (better) in that I constantly derive bits and pieces from wherever to help me understand me and others - life I suppose. Can you dish out wisdom at the end of the day though? I don't think I can cos in most cases I can't think objectively when considering people and feelings. I just get overwhelmed with my emotions and go haywire a lot of the time. What the hell is a wise old man at the end of the day? A burnt out wreck?

But one that's been very well outlined; strangely enough, my granddaughter asked me what the difference was yesterday and I got pretty close to that definition - phew
