Lie detectors!

The South Yorkshire police are bringing lie detectors in, the idea is to offer known sex offenders the chance to take one.
I will look for a link, but I heard this on our BBC news this morning.

Re: Lie detectors!

Two problems with this they are not 100% accurate and not everyone can take them because of blood pressure issues (think that is it or it could be heart not entirely sure which).

Re: Lie detectors!

As the article states, the results from lie detectors cannot be used in a prosecution but I assume it would help the innocent prove their innocence as well as giving the police a higher awareness of those that could be guilty.

If it helps and does some good, I'm all for it.

So much for the presumption of innocence.

But if you are innocent then you would be more than willing to take the test I would have thought.

Re: Lie detectors!

I think it's a good idea and I hope it proves worthwhile - anything to keep down the costs of court appearances or being kept in a cell while they try to work out if you were involved or not.

If I was asked to take one and I was innocent, I'd be quite happy to take it - I'd only get jumpy if I was guilty.

I don't believe those detectors really work Arthur, I would have to have them try one out on me first before I'd be convinced, no wonder their evidence is not accepted in court, another waste of public money in my opinion.

I agree and dont 'nerves' play a part in the result - I'd be nervous just thinking that they think I'm guilty ! Hard to relax dont ya think ......
