Libre Office and Open Office are good free (unless you care to make a donation) alternatives to Microsoft Office. There can be problems with opening some documents created in Microsoft Office that have tables in them and saved in Microsoft Office's native format of 'docx'.Re: Any Good, Free & Compatible Alternatives To Microsoft Word?

I have Libre Office Suite on my laptop recommended by JBR, I believe, in another life. I find it really easy to use - certainly as good as Microsoft Works. So far it has been compatible with documents imported/downloaded from my PC - which uses Microsoft Office - on both word processing and spreadsheet format
