Government's zero rate increase in council precept

Despite promises made that the scumbag 'nasty party' Government would increase Councils' precept to ease the burden on social care, the scumbags have failed to increase the precept at all, including inflation, leaving councils to pick up the cost of the failed inept government.

They are cutting some services we really need and still funding things I think are not exactly priorities. That's down to individual councils.

Re: Government's zero rate increase in council precept

I think in the not too distant future virtually all central government support to local councils will cease and their funding will be raised via council tax and business rates. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, it will bring local government closer to the people thereby more accountable. It will leave parish council and town councils to take responsibility for local services, ie parks recreational services etc. This is already happening in many areas

Weekly bin collections ? Blimey was years ago we lost ours during blairs time.

Libraries are not as needed IMO these days lovely idea but books are so accessible in other places.

Social centres I am more sympathetic with but they can be hosted by private charities rather than public money.

Swimming pools can be privatised.

We have far more serious needs these days than leisure activities.

Ours are every two weeks but we don't generally have hot weather like you do, I think at a pinch it could be done monthly through about 8 months of the year without any risks.

Re: Government's zero rate increase in council precept

It's strange how Councils can't find the money for the important things but can always afford a new statue or road resurfacing when it's not necessary.
