Is there a car you wish you had kept?

My second car was a 1973 Triumph Dolomite Sprint. It was a mechanical nightmare and spent more time off the road than on. As I was only 18 and on a tight budget, I ended up doing most of the repairs myself which included fitting a recon engine, a new gearbox clutch, petrol tank, brakes plus many other minor things.

But despite it all, I loved that car and only wish I had had the space to store it. If I ever win the lottery, I would immediately buy another one and restore it to factory condition.

So have you owned any cars you would love to have back now?

Couple a Honda n600 my first car I loved that car dinks was his name and he got me all over the place quite slowly as he wasn't quickest off the block but was all I needed at the time.

The other one a ford cortina the last shaped one, lovely car, very smooth and comfortable. Lovely big boot you could put a body in it and still have room for shopping ! Not that I tried that Carlotta was her name.

There is no car I wish I had kept but if you were talking about motorbikes then probably any of the british makes I owned back in the 50s/60s. Out of that wide selection then the Triumph Bonneville or BSA Gold Star.

We have had many cars over the years but I can't say I have ever got attached to any of them, and happy to buy a new one when the time comes.

Re: Is there a car you wish you had kept?

Yes, two. I had a red Ford Capri and a Silver Ford Escort Ghia auto (latter had sunroof).

The Escort went in p/ex for the Micra, and heaven knows about the Capri. Maybe another p/e for something. I do know someone else bought it as he came to my home one day asking about the gear box. Can't remember if it started off as manual, then changed to an auto, but my Mum picked up on it and queried it with the new owner!

Capri was great to look at (and I did the lettering in the windscreen The Professionals..what a geek, eh?) and the Escort was a great mover, but by heck, water came in everywhere so it was wet and rusty.

I loved my M3 but, purely from a monetary point of view, it has to be my Mini Cooper.

Half the fun is the imperfections, my husband remembers fondly his first car he had to drive with his hand holding up the roof lining, it used to fall down on him otherwise
