Venice drying out!!

Seems Venice is suffering unprecedented low tides?
From too much to too little in 6 months?
Whats going on?

Re: Venice drying out!!

You haven't given a source but, AFAIK, the only report is from Sky:

https://news.sky.com/story/venice-ca...oding-11907106

Just weeks after serious flooding caused widespread damage, the famous canals of Venice have been left almost completely dry due to exceptionally low tides.

At high tide on Saturday the city was a very different sight, with its famous gondolas and boats almost beached at the bottom of canals.

Re: Venice drying out!!

Didn't the reports on the BBC more than suggest that the high water levels (during the recent higher than normal tides) were due to climate change and the melting ice caps?

Re: Venice drying out!!

It's tilting and sinking anyway isn't it?
Have they figured out how to stop it yet.
It is afterall only a collection of over 100 little islands with bridges and canals between them, I think, I could be wrong.

Looks a lovely place for atmosphere, great in that Donald Sutherland film 'Don't Look Now'... but also damn dirty looking at low tide, like now.

It's a place I'd like to go, if only once.

Re: Venice drying out!!

I wouldn't actually bother going. It's so full of tourists now you can't get round, prices are sky high, and the place actually stinks to high heaven.

We went for a long weekend when we lived in Italy back in the early 90s and it stunk then.

Hmm ... I'll settle for watching a video on youtube then.
Might be better.
