NHS Pay Rise

NHS staff across the board in England have been awarded a pay increase of 3% - a bit better than the original 1% being offered. The idiot doing the interview keeps going on about the 4% given to the Scottish NHS. So what? They are devolved and can choose their own budgets. A 3% pay rise is still a fair amount and is affordable.

Re: NHS Pay Rise

I disagree...A nurse in England works just as hard, and has been through the same as a Scottish nurse. Give them the 4%.

Better late than never I guess.

Can easily imagine that they were always going to get 3% and made this sound generous by throwing in the 1% idea as a opening gambit.

Politics is as politics does!

English NHS is a lot larger than the Scots equivalent and would not be financially viable or affordable.

As it is, the NHS is a monstrous institution - one of the largest employers in the world, that gives the appearance of an iceberg - one third above the water line being the nurses and doctors, two thirds below the water line comprised of management, hangers on, and various wasters on who suck any money dry without contributing a thing to the organisation.

Perhaps if they drained the swamp of the bureaucrats, then maybe the front-line staff could be rewarded better for their efforts.

As you say Judd, 3% is still treble what they were offered before.
I wouldn't have said no, when I was working.

Re: NHS Pay Rise

Hi

Easiest way would be to award them the same percentage pay rise as the MPs give themselves.

Their pay has risen hugely since the Tories came to power.

That's a good idea!

Our health service and other public servants (Police etc) had the same problem they were promised 2.5% (I think it was) but because of Covid and the State no longer having a surplus Gladys told them they could only have 1.5%. After protests from just about everybody she back peddled and found enough money to pay the previously agreed rise.

Because the health service is run by the state government pay is dependent upon which state you are in unlike most other awards which have been devolved to the Federal Conciliation and Arbitration Court.

Scandalous but not surprising from the Tories.
Should be 33 % for all the extra work and danger Boris and Co with their inept handling of the virus have exposed them to.

Re: NHS Pay Rise

The reason they're not being given a greater pay increase is to keep the cost of selling off the NHS down! The cheaper the various NHS packages are; the greater the potential private commission to be pocketed by whichever politician is in line for a share of the takings!

Re: NHS Pay Rise

The rate of pay in the NHS is actually very high as it is.
